During the winter of 1951 it was decided that, although the basic format would remain the same, there would only be four rounds contested by the ten teams in 1952, with the bottom two being knocked out, and the top eight going through to semi finals, and then a final, for the title - the first play-off system in Poland. Ironically, the result after the finals made no difference to the finishing position of any team in 1952.
