In 1948, teams consisted of three riders plus a reserve, and were run over nine heats, with three teams riding against each other at once. Three points were awarded to the team who won the meeting, two for coming second, and one point for third. Riders were awarded three, two and one points for their respective positions in the race, unless they failed to finish, in which case no points were given.
