Please feel free to post any questions or start any discussions in this section. Hi the first ever speedway match i saw was a BL match in 1977 between Ipswich and Cradley United 9as i think they were called at the time. The Ipswich team was Louise (r/r) Lanham,Sanders, Gooderham, Howgego, Jones, Davey, Hines (8) I am trying to remember the Cradley team. I think I remeber Persson (?) Cribb, Valantine, Price and Bastable. Can any one help with the missing names for me? It was a great meeting with lots of falls as i rememebr. Nick W

Hi Nick
Welcome to the site.
The 1977 BL match between Ipswich and Cradley was on 16th June and finished Ipswich 43 Cradley 35.
The team for Ipswich doesn't match up to the one you list as John Louis roder and scored 9 points.
Louis 9 Sanders 10+1 Davey 12 max Lanham 3+1 Gooderham 0 Howgego 4+1 Jolly 5
I think your first match must have been the 1976 clash on July 29th. Ipswich 47 Cradley 30.
Louis R/R Sanders 10 Davey 9 Lanham 7+2 Howgego 4+1 Gooderham 8+2 Jones 6+1 Hines A 3+1
Cradley's team was:
Boulger 8+1 Cribb 12 Bastable 2+1 Perks 4 Price 3 Colin Cook (Guest) 1

Thanks Bod, Yes you are right it was 76, you;ve only mentioned six Cradley riders did they have R/R as well? I was on holiday in Suffolk at the time and the following week watched Ipswich v Kings Lynn. On returning to Bristol I watched Newport till the end of that seaon and then became an avid Bulldogs supporter during Bristol's two seasons in the BL. I look forward to using your site in the future, Nick

Can anyone help me with identifying this bike? Bike is in the U.S. Maybe what it is exactly, year, make model and would be great if someone can recognize it with whom may have raced it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. I would like to add that there is a #2 on the front plate with two stars. Thanks. Attachments:

Hi Sprocket. I think I speak for both of us when I say we don't really know! Have you tried asking on the BSF? They have a diverse audience and may be able to help.

Great stuff! One thing to change, 1938 World Final, J Gibb (GBR), Jimmy was and is still from Canada.....I say and is because he is still alive and living in Western Canada at the age of 101.

Hi, andout, welcome, and thanks for the correction. Nice to have an update, and hear he is well. I wonder if he still keeps an eye on speedway after all these years?!

Hi David. There is a fair bit of information on Norwich speedway here, including a team photo for 1956. No mention of either of those names, but there was a George Liddle who rode for Crystal Palace in 1939. There is a of photo of him here. Bod may be able to add more.

hi, i am new here. I think i have spotted an error in the 1992 Div2 riders championship board entry. I believe Kenny McKinna rode for Edinburgh that season. (Glasgow already had 2 riders in the 16 man field!).. thanx mike
