Suffered a broken leg and facial injuries during the Lokeren Disaster on 14.07.1970, when the minibus he was travelling in was involved in a road accident in Belgium. Riders Gary Everitt, Peter Bradshaw, Martyn Piddock and Malcolm Carmichael died, along with West Ham team manager, Phil Bishop, and the driver of the bus. Colin Pratt (broken neck, head injury, and severe internal injuries), Garry Hay (head and facial injuries) and a mechanic were also hurt, but survived.
