British Finals
The British Final became a regular part of the racing calendar in 1961. However, during the break in the World Championships due to the outbreak of war, the British Riders' Championship was held, and the eventual winner, Tommy Price, was officially recognised as the first British Champion.
The 1962 and 1963 British Finals were held over three rounds, with the winner being the highest points scorer overall.
In 1996 a series of finals were used to determine the finishing postions - the "C Final" for 9th-12th, the "B Final" for 5th-8th, and the "A Final" for 1st-4th. This idea was dropped the following year.
